Microplastics and Human Health: Understanding Our Impact on the Environment
This Avenues signature program invites rising 8th and 9th graders to dive into the complex relationship between human activity and the environment, with a special focus on microplastics and their impact on ecosystems and human health.
Through project-based learning, students will investigate how microplastics enter the environment, travel through food chains, and affect human well-being. They’ll engage in hands-on experiments, collaborative research, and creative problem-solving to develop innovative solutions for reducing plastic waste.
By the end of the course, students will present their findings and actionable ideas through a culminating project that blends science, critical thinking, and advocacy. This program empowers young environmental stewards to better understand our environmental impact and inspires them to take meaningful action.
Times: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
